Dear concert friends!

Welcome to the 3rd year of the Nürnberg Recitals!

What does it mean to be a hero? People who dared something in their time, who followed their inner voice and left behind something that still moves us today. In times of global uncertainty, we present music that already grappled with similar social and political challenges 100 and 200 years ago – and that has remarkably much to tell us about our present.

"Heroines & Heroes" – these are composers like Fanny Hensel, Clara Schumann, Florence Price and Dora Pejačević, who composed and performed with passion and conviction; composers like Korngold, Weill and Eisler, whose music from the exuberant 1920s was later driven into exile. And they are the performers who bring these works to the stage today with courage and personality.

Six extraordinary evenings await you: our Young Artist and award-winning pianist Janick Cech with his personal heroes at the piano, solo recitals by Claire Huangci and Sophie Pacini, and three fascinating duos: Piano & Literature with Huijing Han & Ulrike Hübschmann, a Lieder evening with Aeneas Humm & Daniel Heide, and the cello-piano programme "Opium" with Eckart Runge & Jacques Ammon.

Let yourselves be moved, surprised and inspired. For as Rosa Luxemburg so aptly put it: «To be steadfast and clear and cheerful – yes, cheerful in spite of everything.» We look forward to unforgettable concert experiences together with you!

With warm regards,

Sabina Keresztes
