"Heroines in dialogue"
Four composers, four voices ahead of their time – yet long overshadowed by their male contemporaries: Fanny Hensel, Clara Schumann, Florence Price and others. Claire Huangci does not simply perform their music; she sets it in vibrant dialogue across the boundaries of era, origin, and genre. The result is a solo recital that moves, surprises, and makes one thing unmistakably clear: this music was always there. It has simply been waiting to be heard. With her recent album HEROINES (Alpha Classics, 2026), dedicated to exactly these composers, Claire Huangci has already given this dialogue a widely acclaimed musical voice.

Claire Huangci was born in Rochester, New York, to Chinese immigrant parents. She began playing piano at six, and from 2003 to 2007 studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with Eleanor Sokoloff and Gary Graffman, before moving in 2007 to study with Arie Vardi at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
The highlight of her competition career is the First Prize at the Concours Géza Anda in Zurich in 2018. With irrepressible curiosity and a penchant for unusual repertoire, she performs in the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Berlin Philharmonie, Paris Philharmonie and Suntory Hall Tokyo.
Her recordings appear on Alpha Classics; in January 2026 she released her widely acclaimed album HEROINES, featuring works by Fanny Hensel, Clara Schumann, Florence Price and Amy Beach –
a tribute to the very composers at the heart of her recital programme for the Nürnberg Recitals. The press praises her 'radiant virtuosity, artistic sensitivity and subtle auditory dramaturgy' (Salzburger Nachrichten).
