“Against the Current”
Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, Karol Szymanowski, Jean Sibelius, Sergei Bortkiewicz and others – all composing at the edges of the mainstream, undeterred by fashion or expectation. Sophie Pacini, one of the most charismatic pianists of her generation, dedicates her solo recital to these independent spirits and original thinkers. With fiery conviction and pianistic brilliance, she makes the case that swimming against the current is often both the braver and the more rewarding path.

Sophie Pacini, born on 12 December 1991 in Munich, is one of the most remarkable pianists of her generation. She began playing piano at six and gave her concert debut at nine. At ten she became a student of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Mozarteum Salzburg and was admitted to the highly gifted institute «Leopold Mozart» two years later. From 2007 she studied in the master class of Pavel Gililov, completing her studies with distinction in 2011; master classes with Dmitri Bashkirov and Fou Ts'ong rounded out her training.
Sophie Pacini performs in the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Munich and Berlin Philharmonies, KKL Lucerne, Suntory Hall Tokyo and Orchard Hall. She is a regular guest at festivals such as the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Rheingau Musik Festival, Lucerne Festival and «Piano aux Jacobins» in Toulouse, and in 2026 she is artist in residence at the Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele. She has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Gewandhaus-Orchester Leipzig, Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her awards include the ECHO Klassik as «Young Artist of the Year» (2015), «Young Artist of the Year» at the International Classical Music Awards ICMA (2017), the Prix Groupe Edmond de Rothschild at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad (2011) and the Förderpreis of the Deutschlandfunk. Since 2023 she is a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and curates her own festival «Nuancen».
